We are saddened by the passing of David Zitofsky, father of our member Neil Zitofsky.
David Zitofsky, 89, residing at Heritage House, W-B died suddenly at home December 27th 2010. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. he was the son of Isadore and Molly (Zetkin) Zitofsky. After his service in the Army during WWII he returned to NY to work in the family bakery and then joined his father-in-law in the garment industry specializing in women's knitwear. Dave was beloved by his late wife Dorothy (Gomberg) with whom he shared their love of music, dance and bridge. His other interests included tennis, gymnastics, scouting and photography. Surviving are children Steve, Deerfield Beach, Fla., Joel and his wife Ronne Kurlancheek,Mountain Top, Pa. Neil and his wife Michelle, Hollis Hills, N.Y. His two grandsons Ian and Ryan Zitofsky were a great source of pride. Also surviving is his sister Rita Cohen, brother in-law Martin Cohen, many devoted nieces and nephews. Dad was a wonderful son in law to Harry and Rae Gomberg, His affiliations included the Bay Club, Bayside, NY, Jewish Center of Kew Gardens Hills. B'nai Brith and recently the Wilkes-Barre JCC.
A gentle soul with a kind word, smile and joke for everyone, he will be greatly missed.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, December 30th at 1 PM graveside at New Montefiore Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY. Shiva will be observed at the home of Neil and Michelle Zitofsky.
